A STEM-Focused, Standards-Aligned Day of Fun and Learning
Step outside the classroom and onto our farm for a day your students will never forget. At Johnson’s Corner Farm, our field trips invite children to learn, explore, and discover the magic of nature with hands-on experiences they’ll talk about all year.
As one of the most-loved destinations for field trips in South New Jersey, we combine fun and education for a one-of-a-kind learning experience. Students can connect classroom lessons to the real world as they explore our fields, meet friendly farm animals, and see how nature shapes the food we eat.

Learning Outcomes & Curriculum Connections
Our field trips align with Common Core Standards and are centered around learning: every trip to the farm is a chance to reinforce classroom concepts through hands-on discovery. By providing lessons for you to use before or after your visit, a day on the farm reinforces what your students learn in the classroom.
Aligned With Educational Standards
Our guided activities align with Common Core Standards and help students learn in an interactive environment.
Field Trip | Grade Level | Common Core Standard | Lesson Objective |
---|---|---|---|
What A Plant Needs To Grow | Grade K | LS1.C: Organization for Matter and Energy Flow in Organisms. All animals need food in order to live and grow. They obtain their food from plants or from other animals. Plants need water and light to live and grow. | Students will be able to determine what four things plants need in order to grow.
|
The Structure of a Plant | Grades 1-3 | 1-LS1-1: Structure and Function. All organisms have external parts. Plants also have different parts (roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits) that help them survive and grow. | Students will be able to determine the parts of a plant.
|
The Function of a Flower | Grades 4-6 | LS1.A: Structure and Function. Plants and animals have both internal and external structures that serve various functions in growth, survival, behavior, and reproduction. | Students will be able to determine the function of flowers in a plant, and specifically in a pumpkin plant. |
Sample Learning Goals
Our farm tours bring science to life in tangible ways. From kindergarten through sixth grade, our lessons and activities encourage students to observe, question, and understand the natural world around them. Through our provided lesson plans, and by the end of their visit, students will have seen these lessons come to life through their experience on the farm.
Examples of learning goals on the farm include:
- Identify the four basic needs of plants (soil, water, air, sunlight)
- Describe how living things rely on their environment for survival
- Assess how farms support ecosystems and food production
- Understand seasonality on the farm, including which crops are currently in season
